A Study of the School Portrait

Un Estudio del Retrato Escolar fue realizado durante una residencia de arte de Justine Graham en el Colegio Internacional de Washington, DC (Agosto - Dic 2013) donde mas de 500 alumnos y profesores fueron retratados con cuatro series de instrucciones. La producción fotográfica fue realizada en colaboración con alumnos de ultimos años que se especializan en la opción de arte del Bacalaureat Internacional.
Cada capítulo desafía decisiones estéticas (a través de la iluminación, pose del sujeto, distancia, color de fondo) como los sistemas de clasificaciones del retrato escolar tradicionales (por primer nombre, por nacionalidad, por dia de nacimiento, por color de vestimienta).
A Study of the School Portrait is the outcome of an artist residency by Justine Graham at the Washington International School (August - December 2013) where over 500 students and staff were photographed to four sets of instructions. The photographic production was made in collaboration with 11th and 12th grade International Baccalaureat art students.
Each chapter challenges both aesthetic decisions (through lighting, pose, distance, background color) as well as classification systems of the school portrait tradition (by first name, by nationality, by day of birth, and by color of clothing.)
